HUMBLE BEGINNINGS
Martial Arts Background
Through personal experience, Sifu Rombis is familiar with, and understands, what it is like to be involved in an 'actual' street fight with and without formal training.
In the early 1990's Steven was a member of 'Newsboys Boxing Club', located at the northeast corner of Broadview and Eastern (northeast corner of Parliament and Queen) just above 'Ray's Discount Convenience store, founded by Tony Unitas. It was at this time Sifu Rombis decided to acquire formal training of 'Western Style Boxing'. This club, unlike clubs these days, at initial glance would appear to be chaotic but was rather the opposite. The smell of canvas, leather, rope and sweat surrounded by boxing trophies, memorabilia and photographs as the owner would be in the back office and trainers working their students. Each boxer would be training an attribute or skill taught to them at a station and switching stations as the boxer's timer buzzer sounded.
During this time of the late 1980's and 1990's this area was not the safest of areas. There was vacant land, much graffiti, petty vandalism and litter and rough sorts of folks walking the streets and street fights were tolerable and accepted to a certain degree by the public as well as law enforcement.
Sifu Rombis has spent extensive time learning from top level instructors including Sifu Makoto Kabayama, Larry Hartsell (Founder of the Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do Grappling Association), Philip Gelinas (Dog Brothers) and Salem Assli (Savate/French Kickboxing) amongst others.
Sifu Rombis is not only a martial artist, but grew up encountering numerous street fights prior to any formal training, thus offering extensive knowledge and 'actual' personal experience in 'street' altercations. Sifu Rombis is familiar with the mental, emotional and physical effects of bullying which can be traumatic for any person, therefore it is better prepared than not.
Sifu Rombis Provides an unsurpassed platform to extend his experience, knowledge, skills, techniques and 'actual' street experience to those with the patience, desire and determination to become a stronger individual within.
