TRAINING

'THE MORE YOU SWEAT IN PRACTICE...THE LESS YOU BLEED IN BATTLE.'

Sifu Rombis' training and teaching methodology incorporates the mental, emotional and physical components of an actual 'street' attack. Emphasis is on basic core skills such as Footwork, Handwork and Biomechanics that are essential and most conducive to survive an actual 'street' attack/assault. All drills are taken out of the shell and put into free-flowing 'street' fighting context. This develops the reaction and timing required on the 'street'.

Sifu Rombis' self-defense training and teaching stem from experience as a martial artist and more importantly personal 'real-life' experience in street combat (fighting) where rules and referees do not exist. Growing up in an era when 'street' fights were considered tolerable and acceptable to a certain degree, Sifu Rombis has personal experience knowing the difference between 'being a fighter' and 'knowing how to fight'...the 'science' of combat.

His training and teaching methodology is geared towards and focuses on survival, the concepts and philosophies JKD is based on, founded by Sifu Bruce Lee.. Rules, Referees and scoring points do not apply. There is one focus in mind...remain alive. Survival by any means necessary whether it be a hate/sexual assault, rape or bullying.

'Fancy kicks and punches do not win fights but simple basic body mechanics. Building a fighter can be compared to that of building a house, it must  evolve from the ground up, a good solid foundation or the final structure will be unstable and susceptible to collapse'.

Sifu Rombis, through his teaching stresses the importance of these fundamental basics of a street-fight. This includes attributes such as: Timing, Speed, Sensitivity, Spatial Relation, Zoning Agility and Endurance, along with tendon and ligament strength training that is most conducive to a street altercation.

ATTRIBUTES OF A FIGHT

'KNOWING YOUR RANGE & TOOLS AVAILABLE AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT.'

The attributes of a fight, footwork, timing, speed, sensitivity, spatial relation, zoning, agility and endurance are vital to one another. It is imperative when considering the range a fighter is in at any given moment throughout the course of a 'street' fight.

The range a fighter is in dictates what attributes, tools and techniques are available to execute. This can be empty hands, weapons, punches and/or kicks. Awareness of what range you are in and tools available at that moment is key to 'survival'...and the 'science of fighting'.  This is the 'game changer' as a street altercation evolves at rapid speeds and being familiar with what range you are in is vital to 'survival'.

Attributes are taught along with specific techniques and the different ranges in a fight. This is then put into practical training. It is imperative not only to learn what attributes and techniques are available in each range but training and perfecting it in a free-flowing manner that is most conducive to street fighting.

FILIPINO KALI

'THE ART OF WEAPONS...KNIVES, STICKS, STAFFS,..'

Kali, Arnis and Eskrima/Escrima, are interchangeable terms used to describe this Filipino martial art that utilizes hand and body motions with use of various bladed and non-bladed weapons. Quick rapid movements are used to improve efficiency of hand and foot work conducive for a real-life street attack.

The (3) ranges utilized in Kali include Largo (Long), Medio (medium), Corto (short range). Combination of rangers include largo-medio, medio-corto and largo-corto. All ranges of combat are trained from attack-counter to attack-disarm.

Exercises in Filipino Kali include sombrada, contrada, sinawali, hubud-lubud and sequidas. It is initially learned in a set of sequenced organized drills then taken out of sequence and practiced in a  free-flowing drill. It is vital to understand and learn the concept of counter-for-counter and the flow-of-energy.

CLASSES

Classes

PRIVATE - SEMI-PRIVATE

In-home private and semi-private classes are available for those who desire to train privately or in a small group setting such as husband and wife, siblings, friends, etc. Each private/semi-private class can be geared towards the students specific area of interest for example kicking, boxing, close-quarters trapping, grappling, weapons (sticks, knives, staffs), etc.

As all areas of a street fight overlap depending on the range you are in, this makes it necessary to train each range and become familiar and fluid with the tools available within that specific range and flowing in-and-out of these ranges.

S.W.A.T.

'STREET WISE ASSAULT TACTICS'

S.W.A.T., Street-Wise Assault Tactics, is a certification course founded and developed by Sifu Rombis. The main focus of this certification course is placed upon 'STREET' awareness for survival. As there is a major difference being attacked on the 'street' compared to in a ring, octagon or any other controlled environment.

Importance is geared to survival - 'BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY'. Throughout this course you will learn about the surrounding environment and how to use it to your advantage, whether keeping yourself safe or utilizing it to immobilize your adversary - and SURVIVE.

When one trains in a restricted environment with restricted rules unfortunately this does not apply to, and prepare you for, a 'REAL LIFE ATTACK'. Several factors come into play during a street altercation. When there is no 'referee' or someone to stop the attack it now becomes real and survival is of the utmost importance.
